Rabbit Rambo Movie Released

Monday, 02 June 2008. .

The Blender Institute has just released the follow-up to the 2006 'open source' movie Elephants Dream, entitled Big Buck Bunny.

The short 3D animated movie is a comedy about a well-tempered rabbit "Big Buck", whos woodland paradise is spoiled by three forrest dwelling bullies. Big Buck becomes a kinda Rabbit Rambo and prepares for comical revenge!

The movie is genuinly open source, made with 100% open source software. Not only the tools are open source, but the movie itself - including all materials as used in the animation studio - is freely accessible for everybody to reuse, to learn from it or just to enjoy it.

Big Buck Bunny

I really enjoyed watching Big Buck Bunny, and a funny plot makes up for the frankly weird storyline of the previous mentioned, Elephants Dream. The annimation quality really is quite supurb, and given the amazingly short production time of just over six months it really is a testiment to the power of open source 3D software, and the hardwork of just 14 full-time people. And they are not done yet, because according to the press release an 'Open Game' based on the characters from the movie is in the works.

You can buy the film, (which in doing so will be used to help finance the next movie), on 35mm film format, on DVD and Blu-ray. But as the film is fully open you can also download or stream on a variety of formats, although best to use a torrent. Download information and torrents are avalible on the official Big Buck Bunny website.
