CSS Naked Day
Wednesday, 09 April 2008. Design.
I like memes, mostly of the creator of the word, but that's another story. Today is CSS Naked Day, so all the clever CSS that makes this site more than just text on a page, goes to be left with... well hopefully an example of the proper use of (x)html, semantic markup, a good hierarchy structure.
Dustin Diaz came up with the idea to go "website naked" in 2006 and over the past few years the event has got more widely recognised. For one day International day (48 hours) webmasters around the globe strip CSS from their websites to promote Web Standards with layered semantic markup, and a clear separation between content, and presentation to enhance accessbility.
Because my site is hosted in Australia by the fine folks at Segment Publishing, there is every possibility that this post is late, early or completely out of sync with UK time... but sod it, the point is made!
To know more about why styles are disabled on this website, (and others), visit the Annual CSS Naked Day website for more information. And you never know, you might join in next year!
