Vista Released Today

Tuesday, 30 January 2007.

Microsoft Windows Vista is released for worldwide retail today. Two years late, costing more than £200, and already found to be housing Microsoft's traditional security shoddiness, I have to say "Ho (and indeed) Hum". Read the rest of this entry »

Apple UK Ads

Monday, 29 January 2007. and

Apple have just released some new localised UK adverts as part of their "Get A Mac" campaign. Robert Webb and David Mitchell star as Mac and PC respectively.  This is not the first localised version of the adverts, Japan have had their own.

Top Gear Returns Tonight

Sunday, 28 January 2007.

After my terribly over passionate post about Richard Hammond's well publicised accident, and the possibly that Top Gear would be consigned to the the scrapheap of telly land, the new series starts tonight at 8pm on BBC Two. Read the rest of this entry »

Open Source Revolution

Monday, 22 January 2007. and

I use Firefox, (sometimes Safari), every single day, I find it rock solid, a pleasure to use, and makes me feel safe out there on the big bad Internet.

The fact that it is "free" is also a major factor, and I would imagine it is for most people, which is why I am always amazed that The Omni Group sell a program called OmniWeb for $14.95, (about £8). OmniWeb is a web browser for the Mac, and is one of the last you have to buy, (Opera went free back in September 2005). As far as I can see, OmniWeb offers nothing, that Firefox can't do. Even Internet Explorer is getting there... bless. Read the rest of this entry »

Wikipedia

Wednesday, 17 January 2007.

I have no doubt that my degree would have been harder to get were it not for the existence of Wikipedia, there is in fact a Facebook group called "All my medical knowledge came from Wikipedia", which states;

"Every ounce of medical knowledge we have was obtained from Dr. Wikipedia. She's quick, intelligent, always available to answer our questions, and best of all.... she NEVER pimps us."

WriteRoom

Thursday, 11 January 2007.

I am not one of natures natural writers. In 1996 I was diagnosed with Dyslexia, particularly in the area of visual/motor skills, (that's poor spelling and clumsiness). This is not an attempt to excuse myself from the spelling and grammatical errors that litter this site like the aftermath of a party. This is to give you some background as to why I love WriteRoom from Hog Bay Software. Read the rest of this entry »

REVIEW: The Venice Project

Monday, 08 January 2007. and

Update: The Venice Project is now Joost.

From the founders of Skype, comes a brand new toy; The Venice Project. A computer application and system for distributing high quality TV shows and other forms of video over the Web using peer-to-peer technology. I was lucky enough to nab one of the first few public beta accounts, and have had a happy time playing with the system this afternoon. Read the rest of this entry »

iMac + iPod

Monday, 08 January 2007.

About a month ago, I bought a new Apple iMac because my Mac Mini, (although serving me well), was struggling with me running all the programs I needed to do my work simultaneously. So I dug deep in my pocket and got myself an iMac.

For those interested in the Tech Specs: 17-inch wide-screen LCD, 64-bit Intel Core 2 Duo processor, (2.16 GHz). 2 GB Memory, DVD+R DL/DVD-RW/CD-RW. Built-in camera, FireWire, USB 2.0, Bluetooth, Wireless, and IR Receiver....

Casino Royale

Thursday, 04 January 2007.

Ever the speedy to get into the cinema, I finally got round to watching the new James Bond film Casino Royale yesterday. This is the best Bond film. End of argument.

I was rather sad to see Pierce Brosnan go, the first Bond film I saw was GoldenEye, so for me Brosnan was Bond. However, it was clear from the last film that they were struggling with the franchise, the invisible Aston Martin V12 Vanquish was utterly crap....
