Newspapers

Saturday, 18 February 2006. .

My parents have a newspaper delivered every morning. I've been thinking about what I'm going to do when I move out and buy a house of my own... what newspaper will I get? Well I don't think I will need a newspaper, and here's why: I don't read them.

Today, I get my news from a variety of places; the TV/radio and online. I read the "main" news online, from BBC News, and Newsvine. You could argue that just getting my news from the BBC means that I am getting BBC biased news. Well if you get a newspaper you are getting the political bias of that newspaper, so I'd rather go with something that at least pretends to be non-biased.

For techni news, I head towards Lifehacker, PaulStamatiou, and Slashdot.

For media news I go to the Media Guardian, and for the trashy news that I pretend not to like I delve into The Superficial.

The point being is that I have all the news I want, why should I spend roughly £150 a year on a newspaper I can read elsewhere? Also most of the papers are online, so again why buy them?

Anyway, most of the news comes from news gathering companies like Reuters, and they are online too. The point I am making is that I can't see newspapers continuing in the traditional paper form for much longer.
